Agbaje Speaks On Postponement Of Elections, Promises Social Services For Eti-Osa

The Gubernatorial Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for Lagos, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, has said that the postponement of elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) fell in line with the Nigerian Constitution, although it meant more expenses and more stress for competitors.
Agbaje spoke yesterday when his campaign train stopped at Eti-Osa as he continued his rally round the state.
According to him, the postponement would facilitate the holding of more credible and better inclusive elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He said that a slight delay in the polls should raise no eyebrows so long as the May 29 handover date remained sacrosanct.

“It is apparent to everyone now that the postponement is within the confines of the Constitution and the electoral guidelines,” he said. “As long as May 29 remains sacrosanct, everything is in order. And it is obvious that May 29 remains sacrosanct.”
PDP chieftains present yesterday were: Agbade’s Running Mate –Alhaja Safurat Abdulkarim, his wife –Mrs. Biola Agbaje, Chief Bode George (former National Vice Chairman of the party), Chief Bode Oyedele, Captain Olatunji Shelle (PDP Lagos State Chairman), Chief Ola Apena (Deputy State Chairman), Barrister Leke Adefala (PDP State Legal Adviser), Honourable Wahab Owokoniran (PDP State Secretary) and Senator Kofoworola Bucknor-Akerele (former Deputy Governor of Lagos State).
Highlighting his programme for the people of Eti-Osa, Agbaje committed his government to the provision of roads, schools and social services, which he said were missing in the growing suburb.
“In view of the establishment of the Lekki Free Trade Zone and the planned refinery, the government under PDP knows that there is an urgent need to concentrate on the provision of a befitting road network for this area of the state,” he said. “And we shall concentrate on the provision of such projects.”
Senator Bucknor-Akerele told the cheering crowd that an Agbaje government would build affordable houses for the masses, as well as establish markets for traders.
According to her, it was necessary that Lagosians vote in President Goodluck Jonathan for a second term on March 28, “in order to prevent a bandwagon effect.”
Bode George accused a chieftain of the rival All Progressives Congress (APC) of pilfering traditional land holdings of the people of Eti-Osa, as well as putting members of his own family into key party, electoral and public positions.
He encouraged the people to go to the polls and show their grievances by voting out the incumbent government in Lagos State.
Agbaje said: “That toll-gate is going. For all of you from VI down to Epe, that toll gate is going. All your land that they took, we are taking back and returning them to you.”
According to him, the Epe-Lekki road will be completely dualised all the way.
He said his government would build the long-sought cemetery, hospitals and schools for the people.
