In
Brazzaville, the capital of the Republic of Congo, there is a special
society that exists. One that uses the art of fashion and style as a
means to happiness and forgetting the Civil War that almost tore the
Congo apart.
The ‘Sapeurs’ of Congo are a society of
elegant persons, a close knit group of men who believe in defying
circumstances and living with Joie De Vive (The Joy of Living).
In this documentary created by Guinness Europe, they illustrate the brightly coloured and social affairs that bring the ‘Sapeurs’ together.
According to Guinness Europe, “Their
bold choice to live an unexpected lifestyle is a source of celebrated
originality and positivity. Their life is not defined by occupation or
wealth, but by respect, a moral code and an inspirational display of
flair and creativity. The Sapeurs show us that whilst in life you cannot
always choose your circumstances, you can always choose who you are.”
