A night fire on Wednesday razed the
Katako market in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State,
destroying properties worth millions of naira
.
Our correspondent learnt that the inferno started at about 1a.m and lasted for many hours.
The fire affected most the section of
the market where building materials, food items, household items, and
fairly used clothes were sold.
Director of Fire Service, Plateau State
Command, Mr. Michael Dung, who confirmed the incident, said that the
cause of the fire had not been established.
“When we got the news of the outbreak of
fire at the market, our men immediately mobilised to the scene with
six fire trucks and it took us about eight hours to put out the fire,”
Dung said.
He said investigations were on to determine the cause of the fire.
A similar fire razed the Jos main market in 2002.
